Post a manual journal entry

Open this in Talisk HQ

For an adjustment that no other screen posts, use a manual journal entry:

  1. Go to Ledger › Accounting › Journal and click New Entry.
  2. Set the Date and a Memo, then add lines: an account plus a Debit or Credit on each. Use + Add Line for more.
  3. The Totals row under the lines adds each column up. Once it reads Balanced, click Create Entry.

Every posting in TALISK_HQ lands in this log, so most rows here are created for you by bills, invoices, and bank activity. You can edit or delete only the entries you posted by hand; the rest are read-only. Search the log with the search box, or filter by date and source. Clear the box (or press Escape) to bring every row back.

An entry won't save unless it balances. You can't change or delete one in a locked period; a new one dated there asks why and is recorded as an exception.

If an entry would record a GST/HST or QST payment or refund TALISK_HQ already recorded (for example it credits GST/HST Payable (net), clears a suspense account through the tax accounts, or clears a Can settle account to Other income, by the same amount), Create Entry first asks: This may record your GST/HST refund a second time, naming the period, the amount and the date TALISK_HQ recorded it. Choose Post anyway if the entry is a separate payment, refund or adjustment; otherwise cancel and leave it out. When you edit an entry that already records one, the question says to delete that entry instead. If TALISK_HQ can't run the check, the entry saves as usual. Entries posted without being asked still show up later on the Books Health panel. See A GST/HST payment or refund recorded twice.

Good to know: A journal entry only saves when total debits equal total credits, and only entries you posted by hand can be edited or deleted: system-generated entries are read-only. Entries dated in a locked period are blocked.
