See the sales behind your PST figure

Open this in Talisk HQ

When you prepare a provincial sales tax return, or check one somebody else prepared, you need more than a total: you need the sales behind it. See every sale lists them for one of your province's filing periods: the date, what the sale was (an order number or an invoice), the customer, where it shipped, the amount before tax, and the PST on it.

Open it from Ledger › Reports › Tax › PST: select See every sale, which opens it on the province and period you were looking at. On a book registered only in Manitoba the tab reads RST.

The total always matches the PST tab

The page is built from your books outward, so its total is the same PST collected figure the PST tab shows for that province and window, to the cent. It says so under the total; if the two ever differ, it shows the other figure beside it.

What "Not itemised" means

Online store sales reach your books in batches, one entry per payout. TALISK_HQ opens each payout and lists the orders inside it. Sometimes a payout's PST cannot be traced to one particular sale: an order held back because its charge did not match, an order edited after it was paid, a refund with no tax split, or an order changed since the payout was recorded. Rather than hide that, the page shows it as its own Not itemised row, so every dollar of the total is on the screen. A payment processor that sends no order detail (Square, PayPal, Stripe), and anything you entered by hand, appears as one row for the whole entry.

Registered in more than one province

Each province keeps its own PST payable account, so choosing a Saskatchewan period shows only Saskatchewan's PST. Opened from the PST tab, it always carries the province you were looking at. PST that could not be placed in a province is in no province's list; the PST tab shows that amount on a line of its own.

Take it with you

Select CSV to download the same rows, followed by the itemised, not itemised and total lines, for your own working papers or your accountant.

Good to know: Talisk lists the sales behind the PST in your books for a provincial filing period and totals them to the same figure the PST tab shows. It does not file the return, and it does not decide what the province treats as taxable; you or your accountant prepare and file the return.
